The Geffen's School Programs are designed to serve K -12 schools in the Los Angeles area. The programs make professional theatrical productions available to students who may never have the opportunity to see live theater. Either coming to the Geffen to see our world class main-stage productions through our Student Matinee series or going into the schools with our School Tour program, over 12,000 students will take part in these exciting outreach programs this season.
Student Matinees (Middle and Senior High School)
This program offers students the opportunity to attend free matinee performances of Mainstage Geffen performances. Schools receive study guides with information pertaining to the play and are offered pre and post workshops to help contextualize and expand students' understanding of the play (see Workshop section below for more details).
School Tours (Elementary and Middle School)
Committed to sharing the magic of live theater with students, the Geffen Playhouse brings professional, entertaining, and educational productions to eligible schools in the Los Angeles Area free of charge. Participating schools receive study guides filled with information about the production as well as pre and post workshops (see Workshop section below for more details).
Workshops (School Tours)
In conjunction with our School Tours program, the Geffen Playhouse offers pre and post show workshops. The Geffen’s Teaching Artist will collaborate with teachers to create a fun, meaningful and educational workshop for participating students. Workshops emphasize not only LAUSD standards, but also:
